Air Out

Welcome to my blog about life lessons I have a learned as a the hill country dog trainer and how to apply those lessons in our own lives.

As a dog trainer I felt it more than appropriate to call this blog “Airing Out.” What is Airing Out some of you may ask. Well it is a term I was taught to use when it was time to take the dogs out for a bathroom break. When you have a pack of dogs these “airing out” session can be quite an event. All of them are out of their kennels and supposed to be doing their business so we can put them back in their kennels and begin the next round of training.

However…..

These Airing Out session are also a time for them to get together as a community and learn social skills, play, and chat in their own unique way. They may be airing out their grievances or the Veterans of the program giving them advice on how to make it through my board and train. Or maybe they are doing, in Military terms, and After-Action Review of the Day to swap stories and give each other pluses and minuses that they had throughout that training day.

Okay, about 95% of that was made up in my head as I am standing by to pick up poop. In all seriousness it is a time for them to learn how to socialize with each other while they are doing their business.

So I plan to air out and write on topics like training tips, feeding tips, traveling tips, and any other tips and tricks I have learned on my journey as well as what I have learned while training and observing your dogs and how to apply it to life.

You can learn a lot from your dogs. You just have to watch them, observe them as the interact with their world and you.

  • Their live in the moment attitude.

  • Their ability to feel the sheer joy of going on a walk.

  • The patience to wait for you while you get your act together.

  • Their forgiveness when you haven’t had a chance to play with them or train them that day.

  • And of course their unconditional love for their owners and family members. They would literally die for you.

So that is a little taste of what this blog, “Airing Out” is going to be about. I hope you join me in the Air Out sessions by commenting and adding your own tips and tricks of being a dog owner. More importantly I hope you can learn a little something about life and dog ownership, and dog training. If a certain topic doesn’t make your tail wag, that’s okay. Just air it out…

If you have a dog that is a little out of control, or seems to be on it’s own journey, contact me here and let’s talk and see if my Board and Train program would be a good fit for you and your four legged family member. I invite you to join our facebook page The Hill country Dog Trainer and see what is happening with some of my clients. There are some amazing transformations that happen here at The Hill Country Dog trainer.

Until next time go out there and live in the moment.
